And the winner is...

... Linda A. for her thoughtful and inspiring entry to our cape and a tiara event in August. Congratulations Linda!

And another congratulations to our runners-up, Kate Green and her two-year-old daughter, who  spent an afternoon together fashioning their very own cape and tiara (see above)!

Linda kindly agreed to let us share her winning entry with you. So we have copied it here, verbatim, and hope you will find it as inspirational as we did.

In solidarity,

Amy and Kim

"If I had the world's most beautiful - and powerful -- cape and tiara for a day I would call a meeting of all the world’s women. I would help them to know and love their own minds and bodies. I would help women take their rightful place in the world without fear.

Airbrushes would be banished. Every magazine photo ever taken would suddenly show the truth of their subjects’ humanity. Models would be welcomed into the sisterhood as equals who are as beautiful as the rest of us.

Advertisers would sell their wares openly and honestly. Companies would treat the earth that sustains us with more respect.

Later that same day, I’d call a meeting of all the world’s men. I would show them how men and women can be strong together; that men need not be afraid of womens’ power.

Children would grow safely rooted in the soil of self-worth. Crude, hurtful jokes would disappear. We would love ourselves and others.

Sex would be a gift of passion and respect, to ourselves and others. We would speak freely. People would talk about masturbation calmly and openly in grocery store check-outs. We would celebrate our nerve endings without shame -- shame would definitely vaporize in my cape-and-tiara world.

At the end of the day, before I turned in my magic cape and tiara… I would quietly make miniature copies of each to carry with me everyday."
